| Overview Central Drug Research Institute, one of the first and few laboratories established in India immediately after its independence, was formally inaugurated in 1951 and is among the thirty-eight laboratories functioning under the aegis of the Indian Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), headed by the Prime Minister of India. CDRI, a multidisciplinary research laboratory consisting of scientific personnel of various areas of biomedical sciences, is considered to be a pioneer research organization in the field of biomedical research where all the infrastructure and expertise are available to develop a drug from concept all the way to market.
